All-Ukrainian Open Youth Music Competition “Step to Success”

The first Youth Music Competition “Step to Success” is initiated by the teaching faculty of the Odessa Children’s Music School № 11 in 2006.

The aim of the competition is to discover and support the talented students of art schools, improve teacher professional development, nurture and cultivate classical music among the children and youth.

The competition held with the support of the Odessa Mayor, the Department of Culture and Tourism of Odessa City Council, the Department of Culture, Nationalities, Religions and Protection of Cultural Heritage, the Odessa Regional Philharmonic, under the patronage of an honorary citizen of the Odessa and Odessa region Serhiy Hrynevetsky.

Traditionally, the participants of the competition competed in 2 categories: “Piano Solo Performance” and “The Art of Music Composition”.

In 2018, for the first time in the competition’s history, young musicians had an opportunity to participate in the category of “Soloist with the Orchestra”. In this category young pianists, violinists and cellists had a rare opportunity to perform on the legendary Odessa Philharmonic’s stage accompanied by an expanded Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, students from Mykolayiv, Kharkiv, Zaporizhia and other cities of Ukraine for the first time participated in the competition, except participants from Odessa and Odessa region.

Since March 12th, 2020 for the first time the competition was held as an all-Ukrainian open competition, which was attended by students of 40 primary Art Educational Institutions from the 22 cities of Ukraine.

The next competition “Step to Success” will take a place in Odessa on March 2022.
